Verse 23 is found in chapter 2 of Revelation. The message to Thyatira highlights works, love, service, and perseverance, but condemns tolerance toward a figure symbolically called Jezebel who leads Christ’s servants into immorality and participation in food sacrificed to idols. The image recalls the confrontation between Elijah and Jezebel, but it is applied to a situation within the church. Christ appears with eyes like a flame of fire and feet like burnished bronze, emphasizing his ability to examine and judge. The faithful are told to hold firmly to what they have until Christ comes, and they are promised participation in his authority over the nations.
