And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Verse 12 is found in chapter 20 of Revelation. John sees a great white throne and the dead, great and small, standing before God. The books are opened together with the book of life, and the dead are judged according to their works. The sea, death, and Hades give up their dead, showing that no realm can retain those who will be summoned to judgment. Finally, death and Hades are thrown into the lake of fire, called the second death. The final destiny of those whose names are not found in the book of life completes the judgment scene.
