Verse 9 is found in chapter 5 of Revelation. John sees a Lamb standing as though slain in the midst of the throne and the living creatures. The contrast between the announced Lion and the Lamb actually seen is theologically decisive: messianic victory is manifested through sacrifice. The seven horns and seven eyes represent fullness of power and knowledge, associated with the seven spirits of God sent throughout the earth. When he takes the scroll, the living creatures and elders sing a new song connecting his worthiness with having been slain and having purchased for God people from every nation.
