Verse 7 is found in chapter 8 of Revelation. The first trumpet brings hail and fire mixed with blood that burn a third of the earth, the trees, and all green grass. The scene recalls the plagues of Egypt and prophetic images of judgment upon creation. The damage affects one third, so the judgment is severe but still partial. The pattern of limited fractions will be important in the first trumpets and distinguishes these judgments from the absolute consummation described at the end of the book.
