Verse 17 is found in chapter 9 of Revelation. The sixth trumpet releases four angels bound near the great Euphrates River and leads to a gigantic army. Military language is mixed with monstrous images of horses whose riders produce fire, smoke, and sulfur. The number two hundred million emphasizes the extraordinary size of the army. The Euphrates recalls the eastern frontier associated with ancient enemies of Israel, but the text uses the image within a universal vision of judgment.
