Verse 12 is found in chapter 10 of 1 Chronicles. Saul’s death and that of his sons in battle against the Philistines are narrated concisely. The Chronicler emphasizes the military disaster and the later humiliation of Saul’s body. The people of Jabesh-gilead, who recover the bodies and bury them, recall the ancient relationship of loyalty between Jabesh and Saul.
