Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

Verse 9 is found in chapter 17 of 1 Kings. God sends Elijah to Zarephath, a territory associated with Sidon, the region of Jezebel. A poor widow receives the prophet even though she has barely any flour and oil. When she obeys the word, the supply does not run out. The episode shows that God’s work is not limited to Israel and that a foreign woman responds with greater trust to the divine word than many within Ahab’s kingdom.
