Verse 35 is found in chapter 2 of 1 Kings. Solomon removes Abiathar from the priesthood and fulfills the word previously spoken concerning the house of Eli. Joab, upon learning of Adonijah’s downfall, takes refuge at the altar, but Solomon orders his execution because of the blood he had shed. Zadok takes Abiathar’s place and Benaiah replaces Joab. The new king thus reorganizes the priestly and military structures and removes the main sources of opposition to his rule.
