Verse 1 is found in chapter 20 of 1 Kings. Ben-hadad of Syria demands Ahab’s wealth and later threatens to search his house and the houses of his servants. Ahab initially yields, but the elders and people advise him not to accept the second demand. The crisis shows Ahab acting with political weakness, while an unnamed prophet announces that God will deliver the Syrian army so that Israel may know who the Lord is.
