Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it.

Verse 18 is found in chapter 21 of 1 Kings. Elijah confronts Ahab in Naboth’s vineyard and announces judgment against him and his house. Ahab humbles himself, and God acknowledges his response by postponing part of the punishment until his son’s days. The scene does not remove the seriousness of the crime, but shows that even a guilty king can experience a measure of mercy when he humbles himself. Judgment against Ahab’s house, however, remains announced.
