Verse 8 is found in chapter 3 of 1 Kings. At Gibeon, God appears to Solomon in a dream and allows him to ask for whatever he desires. Solomon requests an understanding heart to judge the people, recognizing that his responsibility exceeds his experience. God responds by granting him wisdom and also riches and honor. The request is theologically significant because Solomon does not ask for long life, riches, or military victory, but for the ability to discern between good and evil while governing.
