Verse 24 is found in chapter 4 of 1 Kings. Judah and Israel are described as numerous and content, while the court provisions demonstrate the abundance achieved under Solomon. Horses and supplies for the stables are also listed. The section portrays the kingdom’s prosperity, but simultaneously introduces elements that Deuteronomic legislation will associate with the dangers of accumulating horses and military resources. Solomon’s material greatness therefore contains a tension that will become relevant later.
