Verse 3 is found in chapter 5 of 1 Kings. Hiram of Tyre sends representatives to Solomon after learning that he has been established as king. Solomon proposes building a house for the name of the Lord and requests cedar from Lebanon. The temple project requires international cooperation and specialized resources. The conversation with Hiram shows that the construction of the sanctuary will also be a diplomatic and economic undertaking, although its primary purpose is worship.
