Verse 23 is found in chapter 8 of 1 Kings. Solomon prays before the altar and remembers the covenant with David. He asks God to hear prayers directed toward this place. The temple appears primarily as a point of orientation for prayer and forgiveness, not as a magical object. The prayer recognizes that God’s covenant faithfulness precedes and grounds human petition.
