Verse 43 is found in chapter 8 of 1 Kings. Solomon even includes the foreigner who prays toward the temple, so that all peoples may know the name of the Lord. This request introduces a universal dimension into the dedication of a national sanctuary. Israel has a particular identity, but the fame and knowledge of the Lord are not restricted to Israel. The prayer connects the temple with God’s purpose of being known among the nations.
