Verse 11 is found in chapter 13 of 1 Samuel. Saul offers the sacrifice before Samuel arrives and, when Samuel appears, justifies his action by citing the army’s dispersal and the Philistine threat. Samuel declares that Saul has not kept the Lord’s command and announces that his kingdom will not continue. The episode defines one of the character’s central problems: Saul interprets circumstantial pressure as sufficient reason to modify a divine instruction. Obedience becomes subordinate to his assessment of the crisis, and the text presents this as a decisive leadership failure.
