Verse 3 is found in chapter 2 of 1 Samuel. Hannah’s song interprets the preceding events theologically. Barrenness transformed into motherhood becomes an example of a broader principle: God brings down apparent human securities and exalts those who depend on him. The song speaks of divine sovereignty over life, poverty, wealth, and power, and anticipates the downfall of the mighty. Samuel’s story is therefore framed by a perspective that helps interpret later events, especially Eli’s humiliation and Saul’s downfall, as part of a dynamic of exaltation and judgment.
