Wherefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Selahammahlekoth.

Verse 28 is found in chapter 23 of 1 Samuel. The inhabitants of Ziph inform Saul about David’s location, beginning another pursuit. David repeatedly escapes while Saul surrounds him in the wilderness. When the Philistines attack again, Saul must abandon the pursuit to respond to the national threat. The scene shows providence operating through ordinary political and military events. David does not need to destroy Saul to survive; circumstances repeatedly open paths of escape.
