And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.

Verse 18 is found in chapter 24 of 1 Samuel. Saul acknowledges that David has acted more righteously than he has and admits that David will probably become king. The king even asks David not to destroy his descendants. David swears an oath and they separate. Saul’s acknowledgment is significant because it confirms from within the story the moral legitimacy of David’s decision. However, the reconciliation does not eliminate future persecution. The tension remains because Saul’s deeper problem has not been resolved.

und sprach zu David: Du bist gerechter denn ich: du hast mir Gutes bewiesen; ich aber habe dir Böses bewiesen;
Tú has mostrado hoy que has hecho conmigo bien; pues no me has muerto, habiéndome Jehová puesto en tus manos.
Tu manifestes aujourd'hui la bonté avec laquelle tu agis envers moi, puisque l'Eternel m'avait livré entre tes mains et que tu ne m'as pas tué.
E tu mi hai oggi fatto conoscere come tu sei sempre proceduto bene inverso me; conciossiachè il Signore mi avesse messo nelle tue mani; e pur tu non mi hai ucciso.
E tu mostraste hoje que procedeste bem para comigo, pois o SENHOR me tinha posto em tuas mãos, e tu não me mataste.
今日你已顯明是以善待我,因為耶和華將我交在你手裏,你卻沒有殺我。
