David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

Verse 8 is found in chapter 24 of 1 Samuel. David comes out of the cave and demonstrates to Saul that he could have killed him but chose to spare him. He appeals to God’s judgment rather than seeking to establish his innocence through violence. His statement about not stretching out his hand against the Lord’s anointed expresses respect for established authority, but does not imply approval of Saul’s conduct. David places the conflict under divine judgment rather than making himself judge and executioner of the king.
