Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.

Verse 19 is found in chapter 26 of 1 Samuel. From a safe distance, David confronts Saul and demonstrates that once again he could have killed him. David accuses those around the king of failing to protect him properly, but avoids turning the situation into an execution. He also asks why Saul is pursuing someone who poses no legitimate threat. David’s defense combines respect for the king with a denunciation of unjust persecution. The future ruler leaves the outcome to God.
