Verse 25 is found in chapter 30 of 1 Samuel. Some of David’s men propose denying the spoil to those who remained with the baggage, but David establishes that the share of those who guarded the supplies will be equal to that of those who fought. The decision creates a principle of communal distribution recognizing different functions within the army. David’s leadership is characterized here by protecting the group and preventing victory from producing internal division between combatants and those providing logistical support.
