And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.
A verse can bring hope. Share this message of faith with someone you care about.
Verse 22 is found in chapter 8 of 1 Samuel. Israel rejects Samuel’s warning and maintains its request for a king. The Lord commands Samuel to listen to the people and begin establishing the monarchy. The narrative shows that God can permit an institution arising from an imperfect request and still incorporate it into his later purposes. The chapter ends with the selection of a king whose identity has not yet been revealed, creating narrative anticipation for Saul’s appearance.
