Verse 20 is found in chapter 6 of 2 Chronicles. Solomon recognizes that the heavens cannot contain God and therefore neither can the temple he has built. This statement prevents the sanctuary from being understood as a residence that limits divine presence. Nevertheless, he asks God to hear prayers directed toward that place, making the temple a center of liturgical encounter and prayer.
