Verse 19 is found in chapter 12 of 2 Kings. The account ends with the conspiracy against Joash and his assassination. After a long section concerning temple repairs, the chapter concludes with political violence. The king’s death reminds the reader that administrative or cultic reforms do not by themselves guarantee permanent stability. Joash began his reign under Jehoiada’s protection but ultimately became the victim of a conspiracy. The narrator thus preserves the pattern of Kings: each monarch’s history is evaluated both by religious decisions and by the political events shaping the kingdom’s destiny.
