Verse 27 is found in chapter 17 of 2 Kings. After the deportation, the king of Assyria brings foreign populations to Samaria. These communities experience attacks by lions and request a priest to teach them the worship of the God of the land. The result is religious mixture: they fear the Lord but continue serving their own gods. The section explains, from the narrator’s perspective, the origin of a population whose religious identity will later become problematic. The issue is not simply the presence of foreigners, but a religion that does not abandon previous practices. The chapter concludes by reaffirming that the population did not truly follow the Lord.
