Verse 15 is found in chapter 2 of 2 Kings. Elisha picks up Elijah’s mantle and returns to the Jordan. When he strikes the waters, they divide, confirming before the sons of the prophets that the spirit that was upon Elijah is now upon Elisha. The prophets initially search for Elijah because they do not yet fully understand what has happened, but the narrative confirms that the succession has already taken place. Elisha’s authority is established not through a political proclamation, but through the visible continuation of God’s work. Prophetic ministry does not depend on an individual’s physical presence, but on divine faithfulness.
