Verse 4 is found in chapter 2 of 2 Kings. Elijah and Elisha travel together along the road leading to the prophet’s departure. Gilgal, Bethel, and Jericho function as stages in a deliberate transition. At each place Elijah attempts to continue alone, while Elisha insists on accompanying him. The repeated formula "As the Lord lives" expresses a determination to remain with his master until the end. The episode is not simply a geographical journey, but preparation for prophetic succession. Elisha must demonstrate perseverance before receiving the responsibility previously carried by Elijah.
