Because they have done that which was evil in my sight, and have provoked me to anger, since the day their fathers came forth out of Egypt, even unto this day.

Verse 15 is found in chapter 21 of 2 Kings. The prophets announce judgment upon Jerusalem and Judah because of Manasseh’s conduct. The language recalls Samaria’s fate and anticipates Jerusalem’s future destruction. The comparison with Samaria is theologically decisive: Judah, which still possesses the temple and Davidic dynasty, cannot regard these institutions as automatic guarantees of protection. Persistent unfaithfulness can bring the same kind of judgment experienced by the northern kingdom. The prophetic word interprets history before disaster arrives and establishes a connection between accumulated sin and national judgment.
