Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. And his mother's name was Nehushta, the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

Verse 8 is found in chapter 24 of 2 Kings. Jehoiachin succeeds Jehoiakim and reigns for only three months before surrendering to Nebuchadnezzar. Jerusalem is subdued and a significant deportation begins. The young king, his family, and officials are taken to Babylon. The fall does not occur through the immediate destruction of the city, but through an initial stage of submission and deportation. The narrative shows how Babylonian power progressively reduces Judah’s autonomy and prepares the setting for the final destruction of Jerusalem.
