Verse 18 is found in chapter 5 of 2 Kings. After his healing, Naaman returns to Elisha and declares that he now recognizes the God of Israel as the true God. He attempts to offer a gift, but Elisha refuses it, preserving the gratuitous character of divine intervention. Naaman asks for soil from Israel and anticipates the difficulty of accompanying his master in certain official acts of worship. Elisha responds with an expression of peace without developing a systematic theology concerning every detail of his situation. The scene shows that an experience of grace leads to a new confession of faith and a reorientation of religious allegiance.
