For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

Verse 6 is found in chapter 7 of 2 Kings. Four leprous men, excluded from the city, decide to go to the Syrian camp because they have no other option. There they discover that the enemy army has disappeared, for God had caused a sound that prompted their flight. The situation is completely reversed: those who were marginalized and desperate are the first to find the resources needed by the entire city. The account shows how providence can work through socially insignificant people and how the fear of enemies can produce a deliverance that no Israelite army could have achieved by its own strength.
