Verse 18 is found in chapter 10 of 2 Samuel. The Arameans reorganize their forces, but David responds by sending Joab and achieves a decisive defeat. The result causes several kings who had been subject to the Arameans to make peace with Israel. The war strengthens David’s regional position. The episode closes the period of military expansion before the crisis involving Bathsheba and Uriah, creating a strong contrast between the victorious David of chapter 10 and the David who will fail gravely in the following chapter.
