Verse 30 is found in chapter 12 of 2 Samuel. Joab conquers Rabbah, the principal city of the Ammonites, and calls David to complete the victory. The episode returns David to the military scene, but it also shows that Joab had sustained the campaign while the king remained in Jerusalem during the Bathsheba episode. The Ammonite crown is placed on David, and the territory is subdued. The military triumph contrasts with the moral crisis that has just passed through the royal household.
