And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

Verse 30 is found in chapter 15 of 2 Samuel. Zadok, Abiathar, and the Levites carry the ark with David during his flight, but David orders them to return it to Jerusalem. His decision reveals an important understanding of divine presence: he does not attempt to use the ark as a magical guarantee of victory. David recognizes that he must submit to the Lord’s will and leaves open the possibility that God may allow his return. As he climbs the Mount of Olives weeping, the scene expresses humility and repentance before a crisis he cannot control.
