Verse 14 is found in chapter 20 of 2 Samuel. Sheba reaches Abel-beth-maacah and takes refuge in the city. A wise woman negotiates with Joab and persuades the inhabitants to deliver Sheba’s head to prevent the city’s destruction. The resolution presents an alternative form of leadership amid war: wisdom and negotiation accomplish what force might have achieved only through great destruction. The rebellion ends without a prolonged battle because of the intervention of a female citizen.
