And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake?

Verse 1 is found in chapter 9 of 2 Samuel. David asks whether any descendant of Jonathan remains to whom he can show kindness for the sake of his friend. He finds Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son, who is afraid before the king. David restores Saul’s lands to him and promises him a permanent place at his table. The scene embodies covenant loyalty and shows that David does not regard his former rival’s family as a threat that must be eliminated.
