The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can shew the king's matter: therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, that asked such things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.

Verse 10 is found in chapter 2 of Daniel. The Babylonian wise men acknowledge that the king’s request exceeds their abilities and describe the demand as extraordinarily difficult. Their inability leads to a sentence against all the wise men, including Daniel and his companions. Literarily, the scene pushes the tension to an extreme point so that God’s later intervention cannot be attributed to human skill or coincidence.
