Verse 13 is found in chapter 4 of Daniel. The enormous tree occupies the center of the dream and represents greatness reaching numerous peoples and creatures. However, a heavenly watcher orders it to be cut down, leaving only the stump. The image contains both exaltation and judgment: a ruler’s greatness may benefit many, but his authority is limited by a heavenly decision. The dream turns political pride into a matter of divine government.
