Verse 5 is found in chapter 9 of Daniel. Daniel begins a confession in which he recognizes God’s greatness, faithfulness, and mercy while acknowledging that Israel has sinned. The prophet does not limit the guilt to a particular generation or place himself outside it. His prayer adopts the communal language of “we,” connecting his own intercession with the history of the people’s disobedience.
