Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.

Verse 6 is found in chapter 9 of Daniel. Daniel begins a confession in which he recognizes God’s greatness, faithfulness, and mercy while acknowledging that Israel has sinned. The prophet does not limit the guilt to a particular generation or place himself outside it. His prayer adopts the communal language of “we,” connecting his own intercession with the history of the people’s disobedience.
