Verse 4 is found in chapter 18 of Deuteronomy. The priests and Levites do not receive a territorial inheritance like the other tribes because their inheritance is service to the Lord. They receive portions of sacrifices and offerings for their support. The passage establishes that those devoted to worship must be sustained by the community and that priestly service constitutes a specific vocation within Israel.
