Verse 24 is found in chapter 2 of Deuteronomy. Once the rebellious generation had disappeared, God commands Israel to advance against Sihon, king of the Amorites. Israel begins to experience the change announced during the previous years: the new generation enters a period of conquest. The victory over Sihon serves as a preview of what will happen in Canaan and as practical confirmation that God can deliver powerful enemies into Israel’s hands.
