Verse 28 is found in chapter 2 of Deuteronomy. Moses recalls how Israel peacefully requested passage from Sihon, but the king chose to confront them. Sihon’s defeat and the occupation of his territory are presented as the result of the king’s opposition to Israel’s advance. The episode also carefully defines the territories Israel was to respect, reaffirming that victories granted by God did not eliminate the boundaries established by him.

Tu mi venderai la vittuaglia ch’io mangerò a prezzo, e a prezzo altresì mi darai l’acqua ch’io berrò; concedimi solo di passare col mio seguito;
A comida, para que eu coma, vender-me-ás por dinheiro, e dar-me-ás por dinheiro a água para que eu beba; tão-somente deixa-me passar a pé;
你可以賣糧給我吃,賣水給我喝;只要讓我步行過去,
