Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee.

Verse 11 is found in chapter 24 of Deuteronomy. A creditor must not enter a debtor’s house to take a pledge, and certain garments must be returned before nightfall. Withholding a laborer’s wages is also prohibited, and part of the harvest must be left for foreigners, orphans, and widows. Economic legislation seeks to limit the creditor’s power and turn the memory of slavery in Egypt into a foundation for solidarity.

Fora ficarás; e o homem, a quem emprestaste, te trará fora o penhor.
