Verse 30 is found in chapter 28 of Deuteronomy. The curses begin with a structure parallel to the blessings but describe disease, drought, defeat, and loss of productivity. The reversal of agricultural and social conditions shows that the promised land does not automatically guarantee prosperity. Israel’s continued presence in it is connected with covenant faithfulness.
