Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God.

Verse 19 is found in chapter 5 of Ecclesiastes. After describing the limitations of wealth, Qohelet returns to one of his recurring conclusions: eating, drinking, and enjoying the fruit of one’s labor is a good that God grants. The ability to enjoy appears as a divine gift, not simply as the result of accumulation. The person who receives this ability can live gratefully during the days God allows, even though the future cannot be controlled.
