So it came to pass, when the king's commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king's house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.

The verse 8 is found in chapter 2 of Esther. Esther is brought to the palace and receives special attention from Hegai. Mordecai orders her not to reveal her Jewish origin. The concealment of her identity is not yet presented as a theological matter, but as a practical circumstance that will allow Esther to survive within a political environment whose importance she does not yet understand.
