Let the work of this house of God alone; let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews build this house of God in his place.

Verse 7 is found in chapter 6 of Ezra. Darius orders Tattenai and the other officials to stay away from the work. The imperial authority that had previously been able to halt local projects now protects the builders. The change illustrates how political circumstances, from Ezra’s narrative perspective, are ultimately subject to God’s purpose for the restoration of the temple.
