Verse 7 is found in chapter 9 of Hosea. The days of punishment have arrived and the people consider the prophet mad or foolish. Their reaction shows the tension between the prophetic word and a society unwilling to hear it. Hosea compares Israel’s corruption with that of Gibeah, recalling an episode of profound violence from the period of the judges. Past history functions as a mirror of present decline.
